Obtaining your Ontario divorce certificate:

Note: If you are wondering, yes, there is a way to order divorce certificates online however it is difficult to do as you must (1) open a “My Ontario Account”; (2) find and draft the divorce certificate yourself and (3) upload it to the court. Even if you do all of that, most courts are only going to e-mail you a PDF of the divorce certificate (they won’t take the minimal effort required to print and mail it to you). And if you are getting married in the future, most marriage licence authorities (including Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton and Brampton at last check) require an original court signed and sealed divorce certificate as proof of your previous divorce. This is why I recommend using the mail-in forms linked below to get an original signed and sealed divorce certificate. (You can also get one in person the court office – the address is on all of you court forms. Note: Some court offices are telling people who show up in person that they have to order a certificate online (which is a cumbersome process). There is no legal basis for them to refuse to issue a certificate in-person. Ask for the supervisor of the counter clerk refuses.)
